Michael Gross: Busy in Barnstable

Many Cape Codders know Michael Gross as director of communications at Cape Cod Community College. Others know him as musical director of the Barnstable High School Drama Club. Still others know him as a talented drummer in settings ranging from jazz to whatever is needed. A bundle of energy, Gross moved to Mashpee from Rockland, Maine, in 1995 and made an immediate impression on several fronts.

Cape Cod boatyard has a new owner

A long-standing boatyard in East Falmouth, Mass., is under new ownership. Edwards Boatyard, owned and operated by Edward Swain since 1979, was sold to Bosun's Marine , which is owned by Tim Leedham, for $1.72 million, according to a deed on file with the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds, the Cape Cod Times reported.

Rabies case prompts safety tips

The first recorded case of rabies in a human in Massachusetts since 1935 was reported in December, when a Barnstable County man in his 60s was diagnosed with the dreaded disease. Although rare, it is a reminder that rabies cases do occur. Most cases of rabies in humans have been traced to exposure to bats, although rabies has been confirmed in raccoons on Cape Cod since 2004.

Sail Cape Cod gets OK to keep talking
